Louise Bonnet’s paintings tend to lay bare the grotesque flaws and absurdities of our lives in playful, cartoonish, surreal, childish color; amplifying a certain kind of gut wrenching internal angst that has to do with how we all deeply and truly feel about ourselves — uncomfortable truths. Here she enunciates something to do with this difficult moment we’re all in. Notice how the eyes of the 45th President of The United States are hidden, his nose is as large as Pinocchio, and though the microphones are all facing him at his bully pulpit, he has no real mouth. Yet somehow this portrait of Donald Trump renders him a little boy, lost and sad, and therein perhaps we might see his humanity…
